Peace of mind, mantra meditation. Bhagavad Gita As It Is, chapter 1| Очищение ума, мантра медитация.
Are there spiritual benefits to be gained from listening to Sanskrit mantras if you do not understand the language or do not believe in their power?
Definitely yes!
The mantra is a transcendental sound vibration and it is of benefit if one actually listens to it and absorbs the sound. Listening and chanting the mantra, or listening and absorbing the sound, is meditation.
Meditation nowadays is becoming a trend. People are more open minded and aware of its unlimited benefits.
One way to purify your mind and consciousness is regularly hearing the Bhagavad Gita As It Is and Srimad Bhagavatam.
If you want to be: increasingly enlightened, and enjoy life with a thrill, not only for some time but at every moment (direct quote from Bhagavad Gita As It Is 18.76) - start right now by listening to this first chapter I have recorded just for you! :)
Ps. And here is just a small list of the benefits of mantra meditation:
- The chanting is done in a way to calm the mind. One can experience the same if listens to most devotional chants of any religion.
- The shlokas or verses of the Gita are in Sanskrit. This language is very scientifically structured. The shlokas’ sounds engage the mind in a way akin to meditation. The intonation is also formulated to get the mind to a meditative state.
- A fundamental tenet of Vedic scriptures is that everything around us can be said to be a Naam-Roop (Name and Form) of vibrations. In fact, the universe manifests because of higher state of vibrations.
In that context, words are also vibrations. Even the Bible echoes the same philosophy with the statement that in the beginning was the word.
- These same words or vibrations have been uttered for thousands of years. Repetition causes the effects to get stronger in the space around us.
- The repetition effect is one reason why we sometimes feel a ‘presence’ when we go to a holy place. It is the devotion of people before us that causes the vibrations of the place to feel holy. So even if one does not understand the specific words, the vibrations engage with the mind to produce a peaceful state.
- The words of the Vedas and Upanishads are divine talks about the nature of the soul and the world we live in. These eternal truths will obviously do good when we hear them, even if we do not understand them consciously for now.
- Hearing them regularly will help us to deal with life situations on a intuitive level.
